He sent me two or three “care packages” years ago, so I did the same for him while he settled in. But it’s been a year, and he still expects one every month. Is this helping a friend in need, or am I justifi ed in ending this? Lynyrd Dear Lynyrd: This answer may be hard for you to accept, but it’s clear for everyone else: Your friend is taking advantage. It’s easy to sympathize with a stoner in need, and we all have blinders on for people we love, but you’ve paid this mooch back ten times over. Lord knows I’ve shipped and traveled with shit, and friends have sent me care packages once or twice, too. But a good friend recog- nizes when they’re asking too much, and this is defi nitely asking too much. America is more relaxed about traveling with cannabis or sending it in the mail, but it’s still a federal crime. All it takes is one weird mistake or lifelong hall monitor going after you, and you’re increasing those chances every time you ship something. It’s time for ol’ buddy to fi nd a plug where he lives, or start testing out THC-A, hemp-derived edibles and whatever else is available in prohibition states. This is not your problem. Dear Stoner: I’m looking to take advantage of Colorado’s big three — green chiles, Palisade peaches and Olathe sweet corn — while they’re all in season. How can I make edibles with them? Maxence Dear Maxence: You’re in luck, because I’ve been experimenting with infusing all three with cannabis this summer — as well as Rocky Ford cantaloupes, the fi nal head on Colorado’s agricultural Mount Rushmore. While the results may vary depending on the dish and your cooking ability, even I can make an infused Palisade peach cobbler or Olathe corn chowder. Infuse the butter for cobbler crust and add rosin syrup to the peach fi lling, or whip up canna-cream and add distillate to the chowder thirty minutes before taking it off the stove. Green chile is a little harder outside of distillate, but infusing chicken or beef broth before making the dish isn’t that tough. The sleepers here, though, are infused cantaloupe bread and risotto. Don’t knock them till you’ve tried them, which you can do after looking up the recipes at westword.com/ marijuana. Send questions to [email protected].
