PHOTOGRAPH OF MATT MEGYESI AND JIM NORRIS BY BRANDON JOHNSON “CANCELING BUFFALO BILL,” MICHAEL ROBERTS, AUGUST 22 B U F F A L O E D ! William F. Cody asked to be buried on Look- out Mountain; it would be wrong to move him. The Buffalo Bill Museum is a fascinating place, and emphasizes his contribution to equality by including many different cultures in his show and paying everyone, including women, equal amounts — unheard of in that time. Like many others in the 1800s, he was a product of his time and should not be judged by modern standards. Carolyn Hagon Denver They don’t have to close either property at Lookout or Evans for “infrastructure.” They simply have to invest a little bit of money into them. It’s a choice to let these things fall away. They want a “new” Denver. It’s pretty gross when you think about it. “Let’s forget the people who actually built this, and congratulate ourselves on how progressive we are.” I hate what’s happening. Eric Smith Littleton Stop with the “canceled” horseshit. He was a historical fi gure and, as with everyone, did good and bad. Just tell the truth about history. No cancellations, no whitewash. John P. Koury Colorado Springs He’s not canceled. Very few people visit because most people don’t care about that era of history. Graeme Smith Highlands Ranch I can watch a Western, don’t need a pil- grimage! Neil Paz-Cruzat Denver I get the idea that the powers-that-be want everyone to make an emotional, irra- tional decision to hate on a historical icon of our early state instead of owning up to their lack of maintenance and upkeep that’s the real reason to close. It’s heartbreaking; they seem to have manipulated a situation. Cammie Freed Mesa It’s a wonderful museum. The exhibits are some of the most informative and eye- opening, including artifacts from Bill, Sitting Bull and others like Annie Oakley. Something I never knew was that Bill paid everyone the same for his shows, regardless of race, creed or gender. I’m really gonna miss the fudge and root beer fl oats and buffalo burgers when the shop closes, too. Matt Pat Arvada I’ve always thought Colorado was abso- lutely crap at maintaining and promoting its history. We love touting ourselves as part of the Wild West, but then snub any preserva- tion, just as with our outdoor spaces. We’ve been trying to be a “new” “cool” Denver/ Colorado for my entire adult life, and it’s not working very well. Elizabeth Rappe Castle Rock Such crap. How dare they cancel another historical place, person and attraction. Grow up. There is nothing wrong with anything at the museum. It is a place for families, history buffs and Buffalo Bill reenactors like me that love everything about him. Hope they come to their senses and stop this from happening. The millions of people that visit every year should speak louder than one poor little hurt feeling baby. Please help save the Buffalo Bill cafe and gift shop. Jason Baker Conifer People. Get. Over. Yourself. Erasing his- tory causes you to repeat it. Taylor Hill Posted on Facebook
