Prepare yourselves for a little mini Walmart store at every corner at the stadium. Tucker McCormick Lafayette And since they own the Broncos now, I’m no longer a fan of the franchise. Sam Walton rolls in his grave daily the way his brat children have destroyed his dream. Scott McGowan Denver What people don’t know is that everyone in the Broncos organization is about to be made part-time for minimum wage with no benefi ts. Richard Fowler Denver Better than the Bowlens, that other family. Patrick Franklin Thomas Denver Trust funds, hoarding and not paying taxes. Not to mention gaming the welfare sys- tem by not paying a living wage to employees. Steve Holmberg Hawaii When a Raiders fan makes a Walmart purchase, they are supporting the Denver Broncos! John Douglas Denver “DESIGNS ON DENVER,” CONOR MCCORMICK-CAVANAGH, AUGUST 18 BRI GHT LI GHT S, BI G CI T Y I enjoyed Conor McCormick-Cavanagh’s piece about Denver’s new urban designer, Eugenia Di Girolamo. It’s about time, and it doesn’t hurt that she grew up in Italy, and then New York City! I do have a question, though. Conor states, “Judging from current population trends, the Mile High City is just going to keep growing.” I’m not clear on how that is a good thing, con- sidering our water issues and lack thereof, so I hope that the unlimited-growth part of the conversation will be initiated here soon. Is there a reason why this elephant in the room is never mentioned in these articles? And why is the assumption that regions like ours, with limited resources, will always continue to grow and expand until we are in full crisis mode? These assumptions seem rather shortsighted to me. While it will initially be uncomfortable, an honest dialogue about growth must begin, and sooner than later. The alternative is that we run out of water, and the people and busi- nesses already here are severely impacted while the city and state keep encouraging new people to move here. We cannot keep assuming, or saying, that unlimited growth is inevitable. It doesn’t have to be. C. Kemper Denver The rocks and fence surrounding the corner of Civic Center Station are to keep the homeless homeless...and in turn to give rats a home sweet home to breed and feed. Edward Saari Denver I found “Designs on Denver,” by Conor McCormick-Cavanagh, informative and mindful of my New York City socialization, education and edifi cation, which command my American civilization, city viewpoints and critiques. Ms. Di Girolamo’s Italian origins, journey to this country, and architectural background took me back to a 1987 evening at UCLA’s School of Architecture and Urban Planning, where the wife of Mario G. Salvadori intro- duced me to her husband. Unbeknownst to me, he was the guest speaker. We can all learn from Mr. Salvadori, a famous architect who adjusted our sensibilities. Cast off provincialism and become cos- mopolitan. Remember that the urban home- steading movement that came out of New York City in the 1960s and 1970s to help poor and homeless people was twisted into the white gentrifi cation movement across America.
