FOLLOW US A S K A S T O N E R BY HERBERT FUEGO Dear Stoner: My friend told me that you could smoke a joint rolled with a corn husk instead of papers. At fi rst I thought it sounded stupid, but now I’m kind of intrigued. Could this be done without hacking a lung? Corned Up Dear Corned Up: Stoners in Nebraska will try anything, won’t they? As a lover of corn and smoking things au naturel, I must say I’m intrigued, too. And when you think about it, smoking weed out of a corn husk isn’t as crazy as it seems. If you’ve ever smoked a blunt, especially one rolled with a Backwoods or Dutch Mas- ters, then you’ve smoked weed (which is also a plant, by the way) out of a leaf. Rolling joints with dried corn husks is in the same realm, and has become a minor but beloved novelty on social media. These corn joints are pretty much a cannabis version of what Brazilians call a “paiero,” or tobacco wrapped in a corn leaf. Corn-husk rollers report a slow, even burn with a muted fl avor that largely stays out of the way of cannabis terpenes. You can fi nd videos of people rolling joints with corn husks and even buy corn-husk rolling papers online. Dear Stoner: Are headaches a common side effect of THC vape pens? I’ve tried several of them and get a headache almost imme- diately. Framp Dear Framp: It could be the cartridges or products you’re vaping, or maybe your body just isn’t built for vapes. While there are no cases of being allergic to vapor, you could be allergic to the ingredients inside a vape cartridge, like the fl avoring, viscosity liquids, other additives or even THC. I hit rosin or resin vapes occasionally, so no judgment here, but there are a lot worse things to be allergic to than these shit sticks, which are bad for the environment and nowhere near as good as fl ower or dabs. If you’re only hitting vape cartridges fi lled with stuff like distillate, hemp-derived THC or anything from a questionable source, then your body could be reacting to the cheap fi ller. Smoking or vaping weed provides quite the head-change, and can dry you out or disrupt breathing while you cough, as well. But if it’s only vaping that’s giving you a headache, consider edibles or a one-hitter dugout for smoking fl ower. Herbert Fuego is the alias of a longtime West- word staffer.
