Is that what’s making me fall asleep? Tuesday Purps Dear Tuesday Purps: Well, it’s certainly not hurting — in the short term, anyway. I can un- derstand why you’re not keen on developing a dependency on both THC and melatonin, but using THC gummies to go to sleep will create dependency no matter what else is in there. And most cheap, sleepytime edibles are in- fused with melatonin, just like daytime edibles usually have caffeine or ginseng. Keep that in mind as you look for relaxation shortcuts. You could try edibles infused with CBD, which allegedly helps some people relax, or CBN, a cannabinoid with a reputation for strong drowsiness. There are plenty of gummies infused with combos of THC, CBD, CBN (or all three) available that might help you fall asleep. Or just eat a standard THC gummy before dinner: When I do that, I’m face down on the couch by 9 p.m. Dear Stoner: What’s with the fancy gravity bongs? I’ve seen them at weed lounges, head shops and on Instagram. Are they really that much better than an old-fashioned setup in the garage? C.C. Dear C.C.: By “old-fashioned setup in the ga- rage,” I assume you’re talking about a bucket of water with a plastic jug rigged with some sort of homemade bowl. Or what we called a “waterfall,” which is essentially a Gatorade bottle full of water with a plugged hole at the bottom (if you know, you know). I’ve done my fair share of both, but it’s hard to argue on behalf of inhaling smoke out of plastic... especially the same plastic over and over again, like most janky gravity bong setups in a garage. Although my lungs aren’t equipped for the regular shockwaves that come from grav- ity bongs, the options from glass companies like GRAV and Stündenglass are very much superior to the homemade crap we grew up on, in look and performance. And they’re far from the only possibities. NWTN Home, one of those “stoner chic” brands, makes a pretty sweet art deco version for less than $90 that would blend right in with your grandma’s china cabinet. If gravity bongs are your thing, I’d seriously consider trying one. Herbert Fuego is the alias of a longtime Westword staffer. Send him questions through
