19 JULY 10-16, 2025 westword.com WESTWORD | CLASSIFIED | MUSIC | ADULT | EMPLOYMENT | SERVICES | HEALTH WELLNESS | RENTALS | REAL ESTATE | A S K A S T O N E R BY HERBERT FUEGO Dear Stoner: I’m trying to get bang for my buck, in my bucket. Where can I fi nd the best grams of wax or concentrate for cheap? I’m not expecting fi ve stars, but good value is good value. Mark on Mars Dear Mark on Mars: A lot of dispensaries have fl ash deals and regular promotions for bundles of wax, shatter and other forms of solvent extracts. I’ve seen some stores selling eight grams for as low as $48 after tax, and it’s easy to fi nd such bundles in the $52 to $56 range around Denver. Four-gram jars and bundles can also be had on the cheap, and single grams for less than $10 aren’t uncom- mon. It’s hard to imagine the same stuff was going for $80-plus a gram ten years ago, but cannabis extraction has come a long way. If all you’re looking for is the cheapest, then you won’t have to look far beyond menu websites and deal roundups. Whether you enjoy it or not is a different question — dis- counted concentrate has either sat on the shelf for a while or was extracted from shitty starting material — but you can still fi nd smooth shatter and sugar wax for around $12 to $15 per gram after tax, and dispensaries like Apothecary Farms and Reefer Mad- ness hold max-out days and specials with discounts on decent dabs. Dear Stoner: Whatever happened to being able to order and pay for dispensary orders online? I remember reading that a law passed a few years ago for it, but no one offers the option yet. Dear Sushi Dan: Like a lot of splashy canna- bis announcements at the state level, online dispensary payments are largely dependent on federal movement. When Colorado law- makers approved a bill in 2023 permitting pot shops to accept not just pre-orders (which were already allowed) but payment for those orders, dispensary shoppers thought we’d fi nally reached retail cannabis effi ciency in Colorado. However, the 2023 law didn’t man- date that banks or card issuers must process the transactions, and no dispensaries have yet found one willing to play ball...and, if we’re being honest, most aren’t trying. There are rare complicated workarounds that usually involve pre-payment, but your best option is to still bring cash. Until Congress passes can- nabis banking reform or the feds reschedule the plant, it’s probably going to stay that way. Herbert Fuego is the alias of a longtime Westword staffer.
