Are pro sports leagues really allowing this? Renée Dear Renée: Even though these rumors are nothing but smoke, social media infograph- ics and “parody” news posts are spreading disinformation like wildfi re nowadays — and exposing serious media literacy issues in this country. No chastising here: You’re far from the only one to have fallen for this. Multiple people texted me in January thinking the Los Angeles Clippers were go- ing to allow cannabis and tobacco smoking in a designated section at the team’s upcoming arena, the Intuit Dome. The “news” was broken in a post from what looked like the X account of ESPN reporter Adrian Wojn- arowski, but it was actually a sham account with a slightly different name. The fake Pack- ers news came in a similar vein: An X account named NFC North News posted a fake report May 10 about Lambeau Field allowing fans to smoke cigarettes and high-THC hemp and hit vapes in the stands. Neither of these posts is remotely true (nor is a report that the Minnesota Vikings banned meat sales at their stadium). Be wary of strangers on social media, you Boomers and Gen X-ers. Dear Stoner: I read that people are prone to crying and getting emotional while fl ying, and it made me realize that I get emotional and sometimes cry after smoking weed. Is that a known side effect? Kinko Dear Kinko: As someone who teared up watch- ing Guardians of the Galaxy at 35,000 feet, it’s hard to judge in-fl ight or post-toke crying. That said, you could be on to something serious. Everyone’s brain is wired a little differ- ently, and cannabis is very much a mind- altering substance. That’s why most of us like the plant, but we can’t ignore individual responses to THC and the need for respon- sible use. We’ve all seen emotional, happy and angry drunks, and cannabis can bring out emotional or hidden sides of us, too. (I’ve never seen someone go from sullen to angry after smoking a joint, but it’s not impossible.) Most research points to emotional dysregu- lation as a side effect of long-term cannabis use, as well, which is worth considering if you’ve been smoking weed for a while, especially if the emotional episodes increase.
