Only problem is that I forgot April 20 is on Easter Sunday this year, and I always go to my parents’ house. Will I be tempted to get too high (and piss off my mom) if I go to both? Hodor Huffi ngton Dear Hodor: Almost certainly, especially if you’re a lightweight or haven’t been to a cannabis-friendly event before. Even if you try to take it easy at one of these par- ties, there are too many chances to hit a joint, take a dab or eat an edible, and add- ing brunch to the mix only increases that likelihood. That doesn’t mean you’ll get too high to walk properly, but good luck leaving without pillowy, glazed eyes and the smell of burnt reefer stuck to your pastel polo shirt. That’s kind of the point of the whole event, though, so bring eyedrops and a new set of clothes, and hope for the best. At the very least, you’ll have no problem eating Easter dinner later. Dear Stoner: Since dogs can identify ex- pensive truffl es, drugs and all other sorts of stuff, I was wondering if I could train a dog to smell for specifi c terpenes in can- nabis. I’d never try to do it, but could I if I wanted to? Pickford Dear Pickford: Dogs can sniff out bombs, weed and, in some cases, even human cancer. Training them to fi nd a specifi c terpene sounds more than doable, as can- nabis terpenes like limonene (citrus), linalool (lavender), myrcene (hops and mangoes) and pinene (pine) can all be ex- tracted and purchased for aromatherapy and other uses (like shitty weed vapes, for example.) But you still have at least two big chal- lenges in training a dog to ID specifi c ter- penes. For starters, terpenes are everywhere, so it’d be easy to confuse a dog trying to spot linalool or pinene when fl owers or trees are nearby. Cannabis strains also have specifi c blends of terpenes, so I don’t know how a dog would show you which terpene it’s smelling, when there could be fi ve or six fi lling up its nostrils. So, could it be done? Probably — but it would take years, if not multiple generations of dogs, to learn how to fi nd a specifi c strain or terp and communicate that discovery to you.
