A S K A S T O N E R BY HERBERT FUEGO Dear Stoner: I’m moving back to Denver after living in Europe for six years. I used to work in the cannabis industry before leaving the States and was very plugged in, but dropped off once I moved. So, what did I miss? Rain Killer Dear Rain Killer: You left before COVID, so everything is going to be different here. Well, not everything. Trump is again in of- fi ce, so you’ll probably be turning to weed more often. Many of Colorado’s best growers and hash-makers can now be found at stores across the state and not just a select handful of “heady” stores, although the quality of fl ower in general has seen better days. We still lead the nation in top-shelf rosin and hash, though, and the prices and edibles selection at Colorado dispensaries are tough to beat — but most of those low prices are due to an extremely unhealthy and dwin- dling cannabis market, so most of your old coworkers might have different jobs. Weed delivery is now legal in Denver, too, although it’s barely used because of strict rules, and the cannabis hospitality scene is still small but slowly growing. That’s just the spliff notes, but fi nd more at westword.com/marijuana. Dear Stoner: How long are weed gummies good for? I’m moving and found a pack of strong ones behind my dresser, but I’m pretty sure they’ve been stuck back there since 2022. Jess Dear Jess: Finding potent edibles during the moving process: Talk about a tempting experience. If you ate one and are still alive, then it’s safe to assume the gummies are still good enough to eat (I say this from experi- ence). But the shelf-life of weed gummies varies largely depending on how natural the ingredients are. Some THC edibles in Colorado have ex- piration or use-by dates on their packaging. Like many of the expiration dates you’ll see on food, whether these estimates line up with reality is often up for debate, but the nine- month period on most Colorado products is close enough. Natural ingredients like fruit juice and pectin spoil faster than artifi cial fl avoring, at anywhere from three to six months, while the cheaper, faker fruit chews last up to a year, according to most expert opinions, and storage factors like oxygen and light exposure also play a part. Consider all of this info and your other weed options as you hold those stale gummies. Send questions to [email protected] WARNING: Use of Marijuana Concentrate may lead to: 1.
