What gives? Sheppard Dear Sheppard: Colorado cannabis busi- nesses are technically allowed to do a lot of things, like launch a delivery service, open a tasting room, provide guidance to up- and-coming social equity entrepreneurs or offer online sales. For one reason or another, though, these initiatives have fallen fl at. The opportunity to offer online sales is still new for dispensaries, but it’s not off to a hot start Contrary to several media reports claim- ing that online dispensary sales in Colorado began this January, they actually started last August — and we still can’t fi nd any stores offering them. To be clear: You would still have to go to the dispensary and physically pick up your purchases (after showing ID), but this process would eliminate the in- convenient and dangerous need for cash at the pot shop. The Colorado Department of Revenue, responsible for overseeing and collecting taxes from dispensaries, doesn’t monitor which stores are offering online sales, so let us know if you fi nd one. Until federal cannabis banking regulations loosen up, however, we could be stuck paying cash. Dear Stoner: I saw a photo of a Total Wine & More with an aisle display of THC drinks. Has to be fake, right? Thirsty Traveler Dear Thirsty Traveler: Your eyes did not de- ceive you, young stoner. Total Wine and other beverage retailers in Minnesota are allowed to sell non-alcoholic beverages and edibles dosed at fi ve milligrams of THC or less per serving. The THC must be derived from hemp, but the effects are essentially the same as a fi ve-milligram weed beverage you’d fi nd at a licensed dispensary in Colorado. Minnesota is the only state allowing tra- ditional retailers like Total Wine to sell THC drinks and edibles because state lawmakers there unintentionally legalized low-dose THC edibles derived from hemp in 2022. The law was crafted to regulate hemp-derived THC, which is federally legal but the focus of increasing crackdowns on the state level, but all it’s done is widen the reach of those products in Minnesota. In Colorado, though, all THC products must be purchased from a dispensary — not that we wouldn’t love to see a weed aisle at Argonaut Wine & Liquor, too. Send questions to [email protected].
