A Little Dab Will Do Courtesy of Proven Media As more and more states, including Arizona, have legalized recreational marijuana, the popularity of dabbing has greatly increased. But to those newer to cannabis it’s not as straightforward as smoking a joint or eating an edible. On 710, we’re here to demystify dabbing. Dabbing is a popular way to use concentrates like shatter, budder, resin, and rosin. Dabbing often leads to a more intense high than smoking, so it’s generally not recommended for someone new to cannabis. For those who have tried other methods and are ready to explore dabbing it’s important to have the right accessories. Get Equipped to Dab When trying out new methods of consumption, you might need to expand your cannabis quiver of accessories. The main accessory for dabbing is a dab or oil rig. This apparatus is a type of water pipe specifically made for dabbing. A standard water pipe has a bowl and a lighter whereas a dab rig replaces the bowl with a dab nail that you heat. Dab rigs are smaller sized because you need the vapor from the concentrate to reach your lips as soon as possible to avoid losing flavor. If you want to experiment with dabbing before going all in, you can replace the bowl on a water pipe with dab accessories, just expect that the flavor won’t be as 10 JULY 1ST–JULY 7TH, 2021 | 2021 N EW T IME S | 710 GUIDE intense using a larger pipe. Many dab rigs include the required accessories, which are a nail, dabber, and dome. The nail is the piece that is heated, the dabber is used to apply concentrate to the nail and the dome is a glass hood placed around the nail after the concentrate is added. You will also need a torch to heat the nail. Alternatively, you can use the newer style E-Nail, which heats up the concentrate internally. The E-nail attaches to a dab rig and provides users a consistent temperature without the need to use an open flame. E-Nails can be expensive, but for those who dab regularly the convenience and safety factor can make it a worthwhile investment. Popular Dab Rigs There are a wide variety of dab rigs on the market, including newer portable styles. Here are a few of the most popular options on the market. 1. Puffco Peak: The Puffco Peak makes dabbing much easier to navigate. The new Pro version allows users to connect the Puffco Peak to an app, upgrade to wireless charging and has a larger capacity chamber. Claims to Fame: • One of the first handheld dab rig devices on the market and it’s still one of the best. • The compact device features four heat settings and only takes 20 seconds to heat and the battery will last for about 30 dabs and recharge in two hours. 2. Huni Badger: Another portable dab rig, the ceramic heating element helps bring out the terpene profile flavor by vaporizing at optimum temperature. The Huni Badger system is more affordable than the Puffco Peak dab rig. Claims to Fame: • There is a tip for both high and low heating. • The unit comes with a high capacity, rechargeable lithium battery and has a 60-second automatic shut off safety feature. 3. Nectar Collectors: Also called dab straws, it’s a style of portable dab rig that has a vertical, straw-like design. To use a nectar collector, you place the heated tip on the concentrate, as opposed to putting the concentrate on a dab nail. Users will also need a glass or silicon dish to hold the concentrate and a torch to heat the nectar collector. It’s not as convenient as a Huni Badger or Puffco Peak, but nectar collectors are far less expensive than a dab rig or the other portable options. They are a good option for someone on a budget, or someone experimenting with dabbing to see if they like it before investing in higher-end equipment. Claims to Fame: • A straw is used as the mouthpiece. • Some nectar collectors will have a water chamber similar to a bong, which provides for a cooler and smoother dab experience. • Easier to use than a traditional dab rig,
