BY PHOENIX NEW TIMES STAFF C elebrating cannabis culture in the Valley takes so many different forms. There’s 4/20, of course. But weeks before that, thousands of cannabis connoisseurs descended on Mesa for the Errl Cup. The biannual two-day event, which launched in 2014, is a cannabis festival, award ceremony and massive celebration. It offers giveaways from brands, cannabis product awards across dozens of catego- ries, food and music, and contests. There’s Bong Wars, Vape Wars, and even a contest to see who can roll a joint the fastest. “Nobody else offers a free event where you can go in and possibly go home with ounces of product,” Errl Cup co-founder Jay Neri told Phoenix New Times ahead of the event, which was held March 11-12 at the Thompson Event Center. “It’s a game-changer for some people. They can’t afford cannabis, so they come here and what they get here can sustain them and the event educates them where to spend their money,” he added. The Errl Cup also issues awards across several categories, including strains of flowers, concentrate, and oils; edibles; handcrafted products; and topicals and tinctures.
