Miracle at Gramps joins more than 200 At first, when Miracle, the annual collection of themed Christmas pop-up bars, an- nounced its 2022 holiday list, Miami wasn’t on the list. Was Miami too naughty for a nice little Christmas bar? Then a Christmas miracle occurred. Drink Miami’s Giovanny Guittierez has confirmed that, yes, Miracle will return to Gramp’s in Miami. Drink Miami is a partner in hosting Miracle at the Wynwood bar. Miracle in Miami at Gramps will open Friday, November 25, and will remain open through Christmas Eve on Saturday, December 24. Festooned in Christmas decorations, Mir- acle at Gramps will offer a plethora of holiday libations, including the “Christmapolitan” (vodka, elderflower, dry vermouth, spiced cranberry sauce, lime, rosemary, and an ab- sinthe mist), the “Elfing Around” (prosecco, gin, mulled wine reduction, grapefruit shrub, and bitters), a “Jingle Balls Nog” (cognac, cream sherry, almond milk, cream, egg, va- nilla, and nutmeg), and the John McClane- themed “Yippee Ki Yay Mother F****r!” (Barbados rum, rhum agricole, Trinidad overproof rum, ube and coconut orgeat, and pineapple juice). Sunday through Thursday 6 p.m. to midnight; Friday and Saturday 6 p.m. to 3 a.m. LAINE DOSS ▼ DORAL BANDIDOS TAQUERIA GOES FROM FOOD TRUCK TO BRICK-AND-MORTAR From starting a food truck business during the pandemic to recently opening their own restaurant, chefs Juan Hernandez and Miguel Peña blend influences from Mexico, California, and Miami to create Bandidos Ta- queria’s flavors. “I am very grateful to Miami and the com- munity for accepting us; it’s a blessing!” says Peña. From a young age, Peña was curious about food and all the different ways it could be cooked. He told New Times that when his mother cooked for him, he would immedi- ately go to the kitchen and try to make a vari- ation of the same dish. He turned his passion and curiosity into his career and perfected his skills over the years. Growing up, Hernandez spent his after- school time in his family’s restaurant in Vene- zuela. His mother died when he was 11, and by the age of 14, he was responsible for the restaurant. He continued his journey in culi- nary school and gained experience in Spain and Latin America. The cofounders became friends when Peña followed Hernandez on Instagram, and both found a common interest in culinary styles. In 2018 they finally met in person. During the pandemic, they made a weekly date to cook together.
