M Ensemble Company, Miami’s longest-running Black professional theater company, returns with a powerful rendition of the Tony Award-winning play The River Niger. The heart-wrenching 1970s drama follows an African-American man’s struggle to survive as alcoholism, cancer, and rape plague his Harlem family’s home. The production visualizes a striking metaphor for racist repercussions brought on by the West African river used during the trans-Atlantic slave trade.
