BY KAT BEIN B oostin’ bitches, where y’all at? Please come to the stage to ac- cept your award, because you just made Yung Miami’s “Spend Dat” a certified gold record. The former City Girl celebrates her first such milestone as a solo artist, and it’s her fastest across her career in any form, selling 500,000 units since its release in late April. “My Crew THANK YOU!!!!!” she wrote on Instagram, sharing the news. “Yall are doing yall biggest one for me! I appreciate my day Ones and everybody new that’s rocking with me!!!!! WOW BITCHHHHHHHH A GOLD SINGLE IN over 2 months. Sesssshhhhh.” The song is a bop with a bouncy beat produced by J. White Did It, the same man behind Cardi B’s viral breakout “Bodak Yellow” who won a Grammy for his work on 21 Savage’s J. Cole collab “A Lot.” The music video showcases Yung Miami and a bunch of thick baddies poppin’ off in a strip club, with star cameos from Miami icons Trina and Trick Daddy, lo- cal hit-maker Ball Greezy and Real House- wife of Atlanta star Nene Leakes. “Spend Dat” garnered some controversy over lyrics that seemingly glorify scammy be- havior, but no press is bad press, as it turns out. The song is just too catchy, gathering support from Rihanna, who called Yung Miami on FaceTime just to sing the single in her face, and R&B queen Monica, who danced along to the song on stage during her own arena tour. The song remains on the rise, sitting pretty at No. 19 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart where it just jumped six places from its previ- ous position at No. 25. It’s currently holding the top spot on Billboard’s Mainstream R&B/ Hip-Hop Airplay and Rap Airplay charts, marking Yung Miami’s first radio No. 1 across her career, and it’s sitting at No. 4 on the on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, which crunches its numbers exclusively from streaming data. Miami, you know what to do. Support a local girl and hit “Spend Dat” on replay. We’re trying to boost this one all the way to the top spot. Mr. Worldwide Pitbull breaks Guinness World Record as 22,000 fans wear bald caps at London concert BY FLOR FRANCESCHETTI H ere in Miami, we’ve learned never to un- derestimate Armando Christian Pérez. Better known as Pitbull, Mr. 305, or Mr. Worldwide. He went from underdog on the streets of South Florida to the world’s top dog in rap, Latin music, and even business, making a habit of proving doubters wrong. So when news broke back in February that he wanted to set a Guinness World Record during his headline performance at BST Hyde Park in London, most Miamians probably shrugged and thought: “Of course he will.” Last week, he did exactly that. During his sold-out BST Hyde Park concert, Pitbull officially helped break the Guinness World Record for the largest gathering of people wearing plastic bald caps, with more than 22,000 fans donning his signature look despite one of Europe’s hottest summers on record. Pitbull joined in himself, wearing a bald cap alongside thousands of fans as Guinness officials counted every participant needed to secure the title. “I’m speechless. Who would’ve thought a first-generation Cuban would be record-break- ing and record-making?” Pitbull joked while ac- cepting the Guinness World Records certificate, staying true to the humor and confidence that have become trademarks of his career. Ironically, the idea didn’t originate with Pitbull. After the London concert was announced earlier this year, British podcast host and cultural commentator Jack Remmington posted a tongue-in-cheek TikTok suggesting the U.K. could unite by breaking the bald cap world re- cord at a Pitbull concert. “I know we’re going through a troublesome time at the moment,” he joked in the now-viral video, “but there is one person who can save us.” The internet embraced the idea almost in- stantly. What started as a social media joke quickly reached BBC Radio 1 and snowballed into an official Guinness World Records attempt, with BST Hyde Park and Pitbull fully embracing the challenge. By concert day, bald caps available through Pitbull’s official merch store for €12.95 had com- pletely sold out, while costume shops across London reportedly struggled to keep them in stock as fans scrambled to recreate the rapper’s unmistakable look: bald head, aviator sunglasses, and a sharp suit (or a summer version of it). The fan phenomenon has become so com- mon that Pitbull has affectionately nicknamed his followers the “Boldies,” after years of seeing thousands of concertgoers arrive dressed ex- actly like him. From Miami to the world and now into the Guinness World Records books, Pitbull keeps spreading the 305 gospel — and there are no signs of him slowing down. Dale!
