South Florida in the summer means one thing: everyone wants to go grab some ice cream after lunch or dinner. Down here, some of the most legendary scoop shops serve delicious ice creams of all varieties, but according to Yelp, only two are the best of the best. Yelp has just announced its list of the Top 100 Ice Cream Shops in the U.S., and out of the 100 delicious spots ranked, two Broward County spots not only made the list but also placed in the top ten! Without further ado (your ice cream is go- ing to melt), below are the two South Florida scoop shops that Yelp says serve the best ice cream in the U.S., just in time for National Ice Cream Day on July 20. The highest honor went to Coral Springs’ Let’s Chill Homemade Ice Cream, which landed at no. 2 in the nation. Located inside a Coral Springs strip mall, the ice cream shop is no stranger to Yelp love. With a nearly perfect 4.9-star rating across all 368 Yelp reviews, people love its house-made ice cream made with fresh ingredients and none of the pre- servatives or artificial colors found in most store-bought varieties. Plus, Let’s Chill’s is famous for its boozy ice cream flights (yes, there’s a rum raisin with actual rum), creative dairy-free flavors, and vibrant colors made from ingredients like beet juice and turmeric. Run by Army veterans Cristina and Ri- cardo Braga (who also happens to be a lieu- tenant at the Broward Sheriff’s Office), Let’s Chill has made Yelp’s national ice cream ranking before. In May, it was named one of Yelp’s Top 100 Local Businesses overall. The Magic Cow, another locally grown scoop shop with locations in Davie and Coral Springs, earned the no. 10 and no. 96 spots, respectively. That’s two wins for the Scottish husband-and-wife duo Andy and Alison McKnight, whose colorful shops churn out 30 rotating flavors, sundaes, cupcakes, and vegan options in cone and cup form. With a 4.9 rating, a.k.a. nearly five stars across all 886 Yelp reviews, the Magic Cow scored points for its Instagrammable signs, mix-ins galore, and quirky flavors like but- tered popcorn and green apple. According to Yelp, the McKnights opened the fun-looking, family-friendly shop after years in the ice cream business, and their ex- perience shows. “The Magic Cow delights ice cream enthusiasts across Florida with its ‘creamy and rich’ handcrafted ice cream, made in small batches with local dairy prod- ucts. Visitors can choose from more than 30 rotating fla- vors at any given time, from classics like ‘Madagascar Vanilla’ and ‘Belgian Chocolate’ to inno- vative creations such as ‘Green Apple,’ ‘Banana Pudding,’ or ‘Buttered Popcorn.’” Plus, they’re known for their variety of toppings, including fresh fruits, cookies, can- dies, nuts, and sauces. For customers wishing to avoid dairy entirely, they also have vegan options. Let’s Chill Homemade Ice Cream. 9739 W. Sample Rd., Coral Springs; 754-702-3513; letschillicecream.com.
