Cagney, a PEN Oakland Josephine Miles Award winner, authored the acclaimed Black Steel Magnolias in the Hour of Chaos Theory. Philp has authored eight poetry books, two novels, two collections of short stories, and three children’s books. Through the documen- tary, viewers can witness Penniman’s distinc- tive self-expression, which propelled him to become a trailblazer in the rock-pop scene.
