THURSDAY, JUNE 6, TANNAHILL’S TAVERN & MUSIC HALL, 122 E. EXCHANGE AVE., STE. 200. $45+ AT TICKETMASTER.COM On June 24, 2003, Minneapolis emo band Mo- tion City Soundtrack released its debut album, I Am the Movie, on Epitaph Records. At that point, the band had been together for about six years, going through several lineup changes and self-releasing a few EPs. With the lineup set, the band recorded a completely different album in 2002 before scrapping it to work on something the band could really be proud of. In just 10 days, it recorded the bulk of what would become I Am the Movie, costing just $6,000 to make, but still going over the band’s $4,000 budget. The band self-distributed the first copies of the album un- til Epitaph Records got a hold of it and offered to re-release the album with some additional polishing. Today, I Am the Movie is regarded as a classic of the emo revival of the mid-2000s. The band’s I Am The Movie 20th Anniversary Tour comes through Fort Worth Thursday with Prince Daddy & the Hyena and The Iron Roses. DAVID FLETCHER Vampire Weekend 7 P.M. FRIDAY, JUNE 7, THE PAVILION AT TOYOTA MUSIC FACTORY, 300 W. LAS COLINAS BLVD. $42.30+ AT LIVENATION.COM Vampire Weekend formed in 2006 and within just a couple of years was the toast of the ex- ploding indie music scene. The band’s music was upbeat and humorous, playing with words and genres to make music that was actually fun to listen to. Over the years, the band has branched out, incorporating more music into its rockabilly foundation. Recently, Vampire Week- end released its fifth studio album, Only God Was Above Us, which was greeted warmly from fans and critics alike. The band’s age is certainly showing on this new album with songs such as “Gen-X Cops” that are reflections on aging and changing. It’s not that Vampire Weekend has left all the joy of “A-Punk” behind, it’s just that, with the perspective of time and age, it’s hard to have fun without allowing all of the world’s ills to seep into the moment. The Only God Was Above Us Tour will have opening support from instrumental trio LA LOM (The Los Angeles League of Musicians). DF Silversun Pickups 7 P.M. MONDAY, JUNE 10, HOUSE OF BLUES, 2200 N. LAMAR ST. $41.25+ AT LIVENATION.COM 8 P.M. WEDNESDAY, JUNE 12, TANNAHILL’S TAVERN & MUSIC HALL, 122 E. EXCHANGE AVE., NO. 200. $35 AT TICKETMASTER.COM Back when indie-rock was the music du jour, Sil- versun Pickups made a sound that went back to the genre’s earliest days, when it was still indepen- dent. The earliest Silversun Pickups songs sounded like they were right out of Smashing Pumpkins’ earliest albums with the same sweet music that would abruptly change into something more cha- otic. The band did not stay true to this format for long, releasing several slower tempo albums that left critics wondering where all of the band’s en- ergy went. Its most recent release, 2022’s Physical Thrills, showed a bit of a return to form with a set of varied songs, with some recalling the band’s early days. Most recently, Silversun Pickups con- tributed a couple of songs to Netflix’s Lincoln Law- yer soundtrack, including a cover of Joe Jackson’s high-energy song “I’m the Man.” The three-piece, all-woman New York rock band Hello Mary opens the show. DF Megan Thee Stallion 8 P.M. TUESDAY, JUNE 11, AMERICAN AIRLINES CENTER, 2500 VICTORY AVE. $110+ AT TICKETMASTER.COM It’s time. Are you ready for hot girl summer? Well, ready or not, Megan Thee Stallion’s Hot Girl Sum- mer Tour with GloRilla will make its way to Amer- ican Airlines Center next week. Megan Thee Stallion had been blowing up in the Houston rap scene for years before she made her big break- through with the Beyoncé collaboration “Savage” in 2020. Stallion started her career like most rap- pers do these days by releasing her first single “Like a Stallion” on SoundCloud in 2016. From there, she landed a deal with Houston indepen- dent label 1501 Certified Entertainment with whom she would release “Hot Girl Summer ft. Nicki Minaj and Ty Dolla $ign,” an ode to her “hot girl summer” meme. Then came the Beyoncé col- laboration, then the Carbi B collaboration “WAP” and all the controversy that followed. Megan Thee Stallion will be in town before the release of her third album, Megan, on June 28. DF Todd Rundgren 7:30 P.M. WEDNESDAY, JUNE 12, MAJESTIC THEATRE, 1925 ELM ST. $19.95+ AT TICKETMASTER.COM It’s hard to think of an artist who has done more to bring together the worlds of analog music and digital technology than Todd Rundgren. His headlining last tour stop in Dallas wasn’t even a physical one. When fans could not attend con- certs because of the pandemic, his Clearly Hu- man Tour made a digital stop in Dallas with Rundgren and his 10-piece band broadcasting the performance from a Chicago venue and lo- calizing the show to Dallas using geo-fencing. The show included local landmarks on the video wall, and the band ate catered Dallas-themed food before the show for an extra touch of au- thenticity. Rundgren had also performed the first-ever interactive television concert in 1978, the first cablecast of a rock concert in 1982 and the first full-length concert shot with multiple vir- tual reality, 360-degree cameras in 2016. For this ME/WE Tour, Rundgren is getting back to basics, playing a traditional concert with his band per- forming a mix of Rundgren’s hits and deep cuts as well as select covers.
