12 March 7 - 13, 2024 dallasobserver.com DALLAS OBSERVER Classified | MusiC | dish | Culture | unfair Park | Contents B U RG E RW E E K DA L L A S . C O M Hard to believe it’s already time to open the taps on the green brew and start slinging beads: that’s right, it’s St. Patrick’s time. If you’re new to the Dallas area, maybe you had no idea that the warm climes of North Texas were so well-suited to this Irish-centric ritual—but in fact, this is a tradition we’ve got down pat. Not only do we have a fine sprinkling of Irish institutions throughout our fair city, but we also boast a legendary St Patrick’s Day parade, held since 1979 and known throughout these parts for be- ing the biggest gathering of greenery this side of the Rio Grande. The parade winds down the appropriately-moni- kered Greenville Avenue annually, bringing together some- where in the neighborhood of 100,000 green-clad revelers for block parties, concerts, and a shamrockin’ good time. And while we can’t guarantee that a crowd of cheerfully inebriated parade-goers will keep everything strictly PG, St Pat’s in Dallas is a (mostly) family-friendly celebra- tion: the official Dallas Mavericks-sponsored parade is a big draw for kids and adults alike. Expect floats in every shade of green imaginable, lots of candy and schwag for the kiddos, bagpiping firemen, and if you’re really lucky, the occasional green-dyed pooch. This year’s parade kicks off at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 16 at the intersection of Blackwell Street and Greenville Avenue; you’ll find official parade festivities ongoing from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. and unofficial parties and concerts all day long. Find yourself a designated driver and plan your day; we’ve got all the details below. Sláinte!
