There’s something to be said for that small(er) town life during the summer: area suburbs have some of the best seasonal events to be found on any local calendar, minus the parking headaches. The City of Garland has plenty to do this summer: every Thursday in May, catch the “You Ain’t Heard Nothing Yet” Concert Series. The free concerts at the Downtown Garland Square Pavilion put the spotlight on emerging talent: Moses Uvere performs Christian hip-hop on May 22, and Marina Dallas plays classic and rock favorites on the piano on May 29. Perform- ers take the stage at 6:30 p.m. Catch the “Food and Finds” Urban Market, featuring local vendors with farm-fresh food, vintage goods, and handcrafted items in Downtown Garland on Saturday, June 7 from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. and on Saturday, July 12 and Saturday, August 9 from 5 until 10 p.m. Commemo- rate Juneteenth on Saturday, June 14 at the Down- town Garland Square: enjoy art exhibitions, live mu- sic from Midnite Bleue and DJ Raspy, and food and drink. And of course, celebrate Independence Day at the Square on Thursday, July 3, beginning at 5 p.m.; fireworks cap off the “Red, White & You” celebration. The City of Lewisville always goes big for summer: their “Sounds of Lewisville presented by Mosqui- to Joe” concert series runs Tuesdays through July 1 at Wayne Ferguson plaza. The free family concerts showcases Legacy Music Studio and Standing Pep- pers on May 27; The Jake and The Zeppelin Project on June 3; Rodney Smith and Straight Tequila Night on June 10; Alexandra and Lover: The Unofficial Eras Tour Experience on June 17; and Yasmeen & The Daydreams and Uptown Funk on June 24. On Tues- day, July 1, Kate Watson and The 8Tracks perform at the “Red, White and Lewisville” Independence Day celebration, followed by a fireworks and drone show around 9:30 p.m. Shows begin at 7:30 p.m. (except for July 1, which kicks off at 6:30 p.m.) and are free and open to the public. Food and drinks are avail- able onsite for purchase. The City of Sachse rocks out with their Summer Nights Concert Series on Friday, June 6 and Friday, August 1 at JK Sachse Park. Lawn chairs are highly encouraged for the live music events, which kick off at 7:30 p.m. The Alternatives headline on June 6, and Neon Prophets are featured for the August event. Food trucks will be onsite. The annual Red, White & Blue Blast will be held at Heritage Park on Thursday, July 3rd at 6 p.m. Party Machine Band performs live; the Sachse Fire Department will provide a Splash- down, and fireworks go live at 9:30 p.m. Don’t forget the biggest fireworks show in the ‘burbs: Addison’s annual Kaboom Town brings together nearly half a million people from around the area for an epic Independence Day celebration. The fes- tivities kick off with an airshow, and live music from Emerald City Allstars and The Elton Johns keep the party going until the big show at 9:30 p.m. Tickets will be available beginning Sunday, June 1 at addi- sonkaboomtown.com.
