N We’ve been loving the events at AT&T Discovery District, 308 South Akard in downtown Dallas, this year: the plaza is fi lled with options for eats and cool drinks, plus it’s a diverse melting pot of downtown residents, out-of-town revelers, and Dallasites from all over the city. The Red, White and Groove, hosted by much-loved alt country icons the Old 97’s, promises to be epic: Summer Dean and Matt Hillyer kick things off at 4 p.m. on Monday, July 4, followed by Nikki Lane and Devon Gilfi llian. The City of Desoto will hold an Old Fashioned Fourth Fireworks Celebration at Grimes Park, 501 East Winter- green Road, from 6 to 10 p.m. on Monday, July 4. That DAY CELEBRATIONS The Fort Worth Fourth at Panther Island Pavilion, 395 Purcey Street in Fort Worth, is a sprawling Independence Day event on the banks of the Trinity River. This year marks the 15th anniversary of the popular event, which tradition- ally features live music, food vendors with all-American fare (including hot dogs, hamburgers, turkey legs and more), refreshments from snow cones to beer, and a huge fi reworks show. The City of Sachse hosts their Red, White and Blue Blast from 6 to 10 p.m. on Sunday, July 3, at Heritage Park, 4408 Hudson Drive behind Sewell Elementary School. There’s no admission charge, and events include a petting zoo, Splashdown provided by the Sachse Fire Department, carnival rides, games, food vendors, live music from Party Machine Band, and—of course—the main event: fi reworks. Lone Star Park in Grand Prairie at 1000 Lone Star Park- way hosts their Lone Stars and Stripes Fireworks Festi- val on Sunday, July 3 and Monday, July 4. Festivities in- clude live races throughout the day, family activities, live music from Vegas Stars—plus a 20-minute fi reworks ex- travaganza after the last race.
