87 BEST OF DALLAS® 2026 dallasobserver.com DALLAS OBSERVER CONTENTS | READERS’ CHOICE | SHOPPING & SERVICES | FOOD & DRINK | SPORTS & RECREATION | ARTS & ENTERTAINMENT New Yorkers, have named Starship the best bagel in the nation twice now at the annual New York Bagel Fest. BEST BREWERY Peticolas Brewing Company 1301 Pace St., Dallas peticolasbrewing.com If a Dallas restaurant or bar has a local brew on tap, it’s not a bad bet to ask for Peticolas. They probably have it. Peticolas Brewing has won awards time and time again, includ- ing this year, when it took home a bronze medal at the 2026 US Open Beer Champion- ship in the imperial red ale category for its irreproachable Velvet Hammer. While the Hammer has become a local icon, Peticolas’ bench is deep with a technically sound ros- ter of pale ales and reds, all of which can be enjoyed at the brewery’s unbeatable tap- room in the Design District. BEST ROOFTOP RESTAURANT Terraza Di Triozzi 1806 Greenville Ave., Dallas viatriozzi.com Via Triozzi is the resident Italian restau- rant of Lower Greenville, and the addition of its new rooftop called Terraza, acted as finishing touches of lime and mint in the restaurant’s proverbial Hugo Spritz. The walk-in only spot leans heavily into a coastal Italian vibe. On a sunny day, there are still pockets of shade and the fans do help with the heat, but the bar up there is the best way to cool down with drinks made with amaro, citrus, herbs and other tart but refreshing ingredients. If that wasn’t enough, the pistachio tiramisu des- sert is served exclusively up there. BEST MEDITERRANEAN Selda Mediterranean 6006 Belt Line Road, Dallas seldadallas.com The Selda Group has many acclaimed Turkish restaurants across North Texas, but Selda Mediterranean came out as our favorite for the cuisine this year. The un-Americanized menu starts with staples like saksuka and stuffed dates, and expands into an array of grilled and chargrilled of- ferings: Shish kebab, of course, plus bran- zino, Turkish meatballs and the mixed grilled, which is perfect for the table with a platter of urfa, chicken, meatballs, beef ke- bab and chicken adana. Specials will be written on the chalkboard out front, so be sure to glance at that as you’re walking in. Desserts rotate, but you can always rely on there being a square or two of baklava left to end the night. BEST CHINESE RESTAURANT Awesome Chinese Cuisine 1520 Independence Parkway, Plano awesomechinesetx.com Would you be able to call your restaurant ‘awesome’ if it was anything short of that? We didn’t think so. Awesome Chinese Cui- sine is a family-run restaurant serving stel- lar Cantonese food in Plano. You don’t have to choose between Cantonese duck and Peking duck here, as they serve both, and an entire menu of other staples big enough for family-style dining. Order the salt and pepper squid, beef chow fun and any of their slow-cooked soups. Don’t for- get an extra order of buns if you go with ei- ther duck. If you’re not with your entourage, they also have American-style Chinese food like orange chicken and Kung Pao shrimp available as lunch spe- cials for $11.99. BEST SUSHI Otaru 408 W. Eighth St., Dallas instagram.com/otarudallas When it opened a couple of years ago, Otaru filled a much-needed gap in Bishop Arts’ otherwise vast portfolio of good eats. In an already vibrant area that has soared as one of the city’s most adored neighborhoods, Otaru doesn’t try to compete with yet an- other neon sign or trendy decor.
